• Check for frayed wires, loose connections, broken sockets and replace burnt out bulbs with same watt bulbs.
• Never run extension cords under rugs or through doorways.
• Choose lights tested for safety by an independent agency like UL.
• Use no more than three sets of lights on one extension cord.
• Save energy with LED lights.
• Make sure that all outdoor lights are specifically rated for outdoor use.
• Survey the area to be decorated for power lines and make sure you keep at least a 10 foot distance between the lines and your display.
  For added protection, plug outdoor lights and decorations into circuits protected by ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI).
